History of The Milverton Hotel

In 1836 a residential area East of Wilmslow Road was established and called Victoria Park. The area was to be an estate of substantial homes and spacious grounds for the professional and prosperous families of Manchester. One of those buildings was the one that houses The Milverton Hotel today. It was originally constructed as a private luxury residence in the mid to late 19th century and was known as Milverton Lodge. In the early 20th century, the building was the residence of notable musician and composer Prof. James Kendrick Pyne. The property has since had a number of uses, including a private hotel during the 1960’s, during which time the Rolling Stones were notable guests, and a night club in the 1970’s, before becoming the Rampant Lion Complex in 1984. The buildings original character has been restored through excellent internal renovation and in the external appearance and is now The Milverton Hotel, an internationally well-recognised, high standard hotel complex.
